Herbal Witchery Part 2: Brewing Magic with Nature’s Green Allies

This week, I’m sharing more of the commonly used herbs that are easy to find and work with. Since it’s November, I focused on herbs that are seasonal and perfect for this time of year; warming, grounding, and full of magical potential.

Herbs have long been a part of magical practice, from protection and prosperity to love and healing. Using seasonal herbs not only connects us to the natural rhythms of the year but also makes our spells, teas, and rituals feel more potent. In this post, we’ll explore herbs that are especially powerful for November.

Whether you’re new to working with herbs or just looking for some seasonal inspiration, these plants are accessible, safe, and full of potential for your magical practice. Let’s dive in and see what November has to offer!

5 Herbs and Their Magical Properties

  • Sage – Protection, wisdom, health * purification. Used often to cleanse spaces and homes.

  • Mint – Protection, & prosperity. Great for offerings for helpful spirits.

  • Clove – Wealth, purification, cleansing & warding from negative energy. Perfect for use in sachets and spell jars for a multitude of spells.

  • Mistletoe – Fertility, protection, healing & psychic ability. (Poison- do not consume!) Hang above doorways for protection and an extra kiss or two from your loved ones.

  • Pine – Purification, cleansing, money & courage. If you get a real Christmas or Yule tree save cuttings for spells and cleaning.

Tip: Start small—one herb with intention can create powerful magic.

 Simple Herbal Spells

  • Protection Sachet: Fill a small pouch with cloves, rosemary and sage. You can add in crystals such as clear quartz or black tourmaline. Add a little piece of paper (or even a bay leaf) with your intentions. Great for cars, or to even carry around in your handbag. Be careful with sachets and very small herbs (they could leak out these sachets!).

  • Calming & Anxiety Tea: Brew a cup with 2-3 cloves, and some peppermint or spearmint leaves. Can also add chamomile or lavender for extra flavors. Mint for purity and clarification, cloves for grounding and protection, and finally chamomile or lavender for peace and tranquility.

  • Clove Anointing Oil: A 1/4 cup of carrier oil (olive oil, almond oil or jojoba oil), 5-6 cloves and a few drops of whatever essential oils you'd like to use. Once the bottle is full, hold the closed bottle in your hands, close your eyes and visualize the goal of the oil. Let it sit in a dark, calm area for 7 days. Once a day gentle invert the oil. After 7 days it is ready to use in anointing your candles.

  • Pine Disinfectant: Super simple, great disinfectant would be to place a few pine trimmings in a large jar. I personally like to use 16 or 32 ounces at the minimum. Fill up (leaving a little space at the top) with white vinegar. Place it a cool, dark area for 10 months and then its ready for use cleaning. I know this takes a long time, but it is completely worth it. Not only does it smell amazing because of the pine, it is a natural disinfectant and perfect for your home if you don't like a lot of chemicals.

✨ Safety and Intuition in Herbal Magic ✨

⚠️ Always approach herbal magic with mindfulness and respect. Some herbs may cause allergic reactions or be unsafe for certain individuals (e.g., pregnancy or medical conditions). Trust your intuition when selecting herbs, and consult reliable sources if unsure. Use herbs in moderation and intention, honoring their natural energy.

In my practice, and in my day-to-day life, I’ve been exploring ways to make my home more natural and connected to the earth. Swapping out everyday products for natural ingredients not only helps me feel more in tune with the universe, but it also keeps a lot of harsh chemicals out of my space. Sometimes the natural way takes a bit more time, and definitely more patience—but the sense of satisfaction I get from it is absolutely worth it.

I’d love to hear from you! Do you have any rituals, habits, or little swaps in your home that help you feel more connected to nature? Share your ideas below!
